Born in La Plata (Argentina). Roberto Aussel began studying guitar at the age of six.
His encounter with Maestro Jorge Martínez Zarate at the Conservatorio Juan Jose Castro in Buenos Aires is an important step in his musical life. Then he addresses contemporary guitar studies and prepares to enter the international scene.
From 1972 to 1976 his talent is recognized with the first prizes of the most prestigious world competitions:
- Concours international de guitare de Radio France en Paris (1975)
- Concours international de guitare de Porto Alegre (Brasil) en 1975
- Concours international de guitare Alirio Dias en Caracas (Venezuela) en 1976.
Roberto Aussel embarks then on a major career, his reputation as an international concertist continues to attract the interest of the best musicians, as well as the usual guitar audience.
He regularly performs recitals in different cities in Europe, Latin America, Japan, China and the United States. He has played with: l'Orchestre philarmonique de Radio France, l'Orchestre Colonne de Paris, l'Orchestre National de Lyon, the orchestra of the BBC in London, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic…
Roberto Aussel devotes much of its activities to contemporary music. He takes part of the 1979 intercontemporain ensemble (Atelier Hans Zender) and of the group Atelier Echange in 1982 and 1983. In 1999, he enters l'Atelier de Recherche de Creation et d'Enseignement de la Musique Actuelle (ARCEMA).
He collaborates with several composers being many the ones writing for him. These include Marius Constant, Marlos Nobre, François Rossé, Norbert Leclerc, José Luis Campana, Francis Schwartz, Juan María Solare, Francis Kleynjans, Bob Wander, Carlos Gratz, Edmundo Vasquez, Pascale Jakubowski… In 1981, Astor Piazzolla wrote for him his first five pieces for classical guitar "Cinco Piezas" that he performed later that year in Paris, at the Unesco.
Roberto Aussel is since 1994 professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, Germany.
He runs a collection of music for guitar with the publisher Henry Lemoine.
In 1999, the Foundation Konex Buenos Aires (Argentina) awarded him with the prestigious "Platinum Konex PRIX", which recognizes the work done over the past ten years.
Roberto Aussel since 2005 assumed the artistic direction of "La Semaine Internationale de la guitare" at the city of Nantes in France.
His last recording under the label "Aeon" was released in May 2008. It is a tribute to the famous Argentine guitarist and poet Atahualpa Yupanqui.
