The young award-winning Spanish artist Rafael Aguirre is one of the most acclaimed guitarists nowadays, following the tradition of Andres Segovia and Narciso Yepes in his deep musicality, innovative technology and vast repertoire. Its twelve (12) first prizes in the most prestigious international competitions - a record feature in Spain - evidenced by the praise of international audiences and critics. His next tour includes his highly anticipated debut at the National Auditorium in Madrid and in the St. Petersburg Philharmonic's auditorium as well as more than 30 concerts in South America, Germany, Spain and the United States, where he will be performing a song dedicated to him by the Composer and Latin Grammy winner Sergio Assad.
Born in 1984 in the birthplace of the guitar, Spain, he began his musical studies at the age of 7 and since then he has established himself as an international artist with presence in over seventeen countries. At the age of 16, he performed his first orchestral tour in Spain, playing the "Concierto de Aranjuez". A year later, he performed live for the European Union in a special broadcast of Radio Nacional de España. Other appearances include appearances for the BBC (London), MDR (Germany), Radio Orfeo (Russia) and Kol Ha Music (Israel). In 2010, Cecilia Rodrigo (daughter of Joaquin Rodrigo) selected his interpretation of the "Toccata" as the best at the moment, being interviewed by magazines in Japan (Gendai Guitar), UK (Classical Guitar), USA (Soundboard) and Spain (Acordes).
The venues that have hosted Rafael include Carnegie Hall (NY), Tchaikovsky Hall (Russia), Palau de la Música (Valencia) and the Tonhalle (Düsseldorf) thus obtaining continuous invitations and standing ovations. The international press has described her performances as "a blessing" (Mainz Echo) full of "interpretative maturity" (Rhythm Magazine) so that her hometown has recently awarded the "Young Malaga 2011" for breakthrough artist.
In 2004, the Spanish government grants and the "Alexander von Humboldt" foundation allowed his studies in Germany, graduating with top grades and honors under the tutelage of legendary master Joaquin Clerch. In 2006 he became the first guitarist to win the contest "Schmolz & Bickenbach" for all instruments, collabrating with orchestras with the likes of Baden Baden Philharmonic, Malga Philharmonic, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Extremadura's Philarmonic and the Syrian National Orchestra.
Rafael has released two CD's for the Spanish Radio and Television (RTVE) and the Naxos label, which was included in the selection list for the Latin GRAMMY'S ® "Best Classical Album." His recent production for KSG Exaudi - "Transcripts" - will be published in 2011, with two pending productions for Naxos in 2012.
